Late/Absence Procedures

Absences and Late Arrival

At Pelsall Village we are determined to continually improve our overall attendance and reduce the number of children arriving late to school.  Parents of children who are persistently late or have an attendance below 90% will be contacted by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, who will work with you to ensure your child arrives at school on time.

On the first day of absence, notification and reason for absence should be given to the school office as early as possible. If this is not done then the absence will remain unauthorised.  Where the absence involves an extended illness we will request confirmation in the form of a medical appointment card.

We work closely with The Education Welfare Service who regularly monitor attendance and may visit your home to offer support or guidance.

Holidays/Request for absence

All request for holiday/absence leave must be made through completion of a 'Absence request Form' obtained from the office.  Following government guidance, all requests will be unauthorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. All requests for absence will be referred to the Education Welfare Service who may issue a fixed penalty notice incurring a fine of up to £60 per parent per child if paid within 21 days.
