Autumn Term Timetable

Spellings:

This term we will learn:

Maths

In our maths lessons we will be working on the different areas of maths. These areas are numbers, fractions, calculation and measurement.

We use a challenge-based system where we work through levels of difficulty which are suited to each child.

Following each lesson, we fix any 'marvellous mistakes' with a DIRT (Do It Right Time) or a MUD (My Unique Development) to secure understanding.

On Friday, we challenge ourselves with our CLICs, Learn Its and SAFEs from Big Maths. This tests our learning of all areas of maths.

The children will be bringing their CLICs, Learn Its and SAFEs home for you to see and so they can complete. This will support their understanding and progression.

Homework

Weekly homework is set on ANTON, which all children can access using the barcode provided. This should be completed alongside daily reading to support and reinforce learning at home.

Reading

This term we are reading, 'The Train to Impossible Places' by P.G. Bell

We will be using a variety of skills such as retrieval, prediction, inference and discussing new vocabulary.

Reading a lot at home will also support the children's work in school.

Writing

Our writing this half-term will be focused on narrative writing, a fictional story which includes mystery and fantasy, called, 'The Viewer, written by Gary Crew.

We will also be writing a newspaper report about the moment Charlie discovers the final golden ticket in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

At first, we will explore the text before focusing on sentence structure and word levels. In our final weeks we will be writing and editing our final pieces.

Science

In our science lessons this term, we will be learning all about space, the planets, night and day and a specific focus on the phases of the moon.

Geography & History

Our geography this term will be comparing the UK, Japan and Madagascar.

In our history lessons we will be focusing on 'Crime and Punishment.'
