 Mrs Sheppard teaches everyday with Mrs Berry teaching Science and RE on a Tuesday afternoon. 

 

The children in Year 6 have been grouped for Writing and Maths. Your child may have either Mrs Sheppard or Miss Thomson for these lessons.

SPELLINGS

This half term, we will be learning about:

Maths

Each day during the week, we will concentrate on a different aspect of maths. Over this term, we will cover:

Monday - Number -  10, 100 or 1,00 more or less. Place value.

Tuesday - Fractions - Addition and subtraction of decimals.

Wednesday - ArithmeticTest-style arithmetic questions.

Thursday - Calculation -  Addition and subtraction of 5 digit numbers.

Friday - Measurement - Perimeter and area, angles

Writing  

Our writing this half term coincides with a new book called Rose Blanche by Roberto Innocenti and is set during World war Two. We are going to use this picture book to write diary entries as Rose, a German girl, who discovers a concentration camp in her village. We will also learn more about The Holocaust and the Second World War to produce newspaper and non-chronological reports on.

 

 

Reading

Our reading novel this term is 'Who let the gods out?' by Maz Evans.

Each week, we will read one or two chapters of the book and look at the vocabulary, summarising ideas, predicting events and answering questions related to the text.

 

Science

Our topic this half term is Electricity

We will be revising how to put electrical circuits togethers and the components that are needed for successful circuits. 

 

 

 

 

Geography

 

Our geography this half term is focusing on Tour UK. We are focusing on Cuba and Indonesia. We will be comparing these islands and looking at how they combat natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. 

 

 

 

     

 

 

History

In history, we are looking at modern civilisations, specifically the British Empire and how they colonised across the world to become the largest empire in history. 

 

      

 

 

 

 

 

Art

We are learning about painting and how to use acrylic paint. We will specifically be looking at how to paint effectively on canvas and how to build depth within our images.

It is extremely important that ALL children bring a water bottle into school everyday.

- Please practise each week's spellings. We will look through the spellings each Friday and the pupils will be tested on them the following week.

 

- Times table Rockstars. Practise your times tables using your login and username. 

 

- Continue to read as much as you can at home. Remember to complete an AR quiz when you get back into school.
