 Mrs Sheppard teaches everyday with Mrs Berry teaching Science and RE on a Tuesday afternoon. 

 

The children in Year 6 have been grouped for Writing and Maths. Your child may have either Mrs Sheppard or Miss Thomson for these lessons.

SPELLINGS

This half term, we will be learning about:

Maths

Each day during the week, we will concentrate on a different aspect of maths. Over this term, we will cover:

Monday - Number -  10, 100 or 1,00 more or less. Place value.

Tuesday - Fractions - Addition and subtraction of decimals.

Wednesday - ArithmeticTest-style arithmetic questions.

Thursday - Calculation -  Addition and subtraction of 5 digit numbers.

Friday - Measurement - Perimeter and area.

Writing  

This term, our writing is focussing on the book, which we are also working on in our reading sessions.

We will be writing a character description for a teacher in 'Who let the gods out?' and we will be moving on to a non-chronological report based on a Greek mythological creature.

      

Reading

Our reading novel this term is 'Who let the gods out?' by Maz Evans.

Each week, we will read one or two chapters of the book and look at the vocabulary, summarising ideas, predicting events and answering questions related to the text.

 

Science

 

Our Science topic this half term is  Living Things .

 

Our learning will look at the biology of living things and how they can be grouped and classified.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Geography

In Geography this half term, our topic is Tour UK where we will be learning about Belfast. We will look at the human and physical geography found within Northern Ireland and in particular the city of Belfast.

 

 

 

       

 

 

History

In History this half term, our topic is Ancient History and we are learning about Ancient Greeks. We will look at the evolution of governments, medicine and thinkers during this important time in history.

 

 

 

 

Art

We are learning about the sculptor Henry Moore and trying to replicate his work. We will also be comparing the work of Henry Moore with that of Jacob Epstein.

It is extremely important that ALL children bring a water bottle into school everyday.

- Please practise each week's spellings. We will look through the spellings each Friday and the pupils will be tested on them the following week.

 

- Times table Rockstars. Practise your times tables using your login and username. 

 

- Continue to read as much as you can at home. Remember to complete an AR quiz when you get back into school.
