 Mrs Sheppard teaches everyday with Mrs Berry teaching Science and RE on a Tuesday afternoon. 

 

The children in Year 6 have been grouped for Writing and Maths. Your child may have either Mrs Sheppard or Miss Thomson for these lessons.

SPELLINGS

This half term, we will be learning about:

Maths

Each day during the week, we will concentrate on a different aspect of maths. Over this term, we will cover:

Monday - Number -  Ratio, fractions and scaling.

Tuesday - Fractions - Decimals, fractions and percentages and their equivalents.

Wednesday - ArithmeticTest-style arithmetic questions.

Thursday - Calculation -  BODMAS and algebra.

Friday - Measurement - Regular polygons, nets, circles and quadrants.

Writing  

Our writing this half term is based on the Michael Morpurgo story 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. We will be using the text to inspire setting descriptions, character descriptions, diaries and narrative writing.

 

Reading

This term, we will not be concentrating on a certain text in reading, but will be looking at short extracts and how to answer more complex test-style questions. We will also be practising GAPS in our reading time too.

 

 

Science

Our topic this half term is Light

We will be learning about how we see objects, shadows, refraction of light and light pollution.

 

 

 

 

Geography

 

Our Geography this half term is focusing on Geography for Life. We will be researching and discussing environmental issues, such as deforestation, and careers in the field of Geography that might interest us in the future.

 

 

 

     

 

 

History

In history, we are leaning about the lives of Significant People and why they are considered significant in history. We will be learning about the lives and legacies of Winston Churchill and Malala Yousaf.

 

           

      

 

 

 

 

 

Art

We are looking at perspective this half term. We will also be choosing appropriate tools to use for a self-portrait focussing on perspective and how we can be seen differently.

It is extremely important that ALL children bring a water bottle into school everyday.

- Please practise each week's spellings. We will look through the spellings each Friday and the pupils will be tested on them the following week.

 

- Times table Rockstars. Practise your times tables using your login and username. 

 

- Continue to read as much as you can at home. Remember to complete an AR quiz when you get back into school.
