🎨 What We’re Learning

This half term, we will be exploring Digital Painting using technology, inspired by the National Centre for Computing Education.

  • Exploring Digital Art
    • Looking at artwork created on computers and tablets
    • Discussing how digital art is different from drawing on paper
  • Using Digital Tools
    • Learning how to use a mouse or touchscreen to create pictures
    • Exploring tools such as brushes, colours, shapes and fill
  • Creating Digital Paintings
    • Designing our own pictures using digital tools
    • Experimenting with different effects and styles
  • Developing and Improving Work
    • Editing and changing our artwork
    • Talking about what we like and what we might improve
  • Evaluating Digital Work
    • Sharing our creations with others
    • Discussing how effective our designs are

🧠 Skills We’re Developing

Through our learning, children will be developing:

  • Digital skills – using technology to create and edit artwork
  • Fine motor skills – controlling a mouse or touchscreen accurately
  • Creativity – expressing ideas through digital media
  • Problem-solving – exploring tools and fixing mistakes
  • Evaluation – reflecting on and improving their work
  • Vocabulary – using words like tool, brush, colour, digital, edit

You can support your child’s learning in fun and simple ways:

  • 💻 Use drawing apps on tablets or computers
  • 🎨 Encourage digital creativity by making pictures or patterns
  • 🖱️ Practise mouse control through simple games or activities
  • 📱 Explore tools together – talk about brushes, colours and effects
  • 💬 Talk about their artwork – ask what they created and how
  • 🖼️ Compare digital and paper art and discuss the differences
