🕌 What We’re Learning

This half term, our topic is World of Festivals: Who celebrates what and why?, where we will explore how and why people celebrate special festivals in different religions, including Islam, Sikhi and Christianity.

  • Who Celebrates What and Why
    • Learning which religions celebrate different festivals
    • Understanding why these celebrations are important
  • Stories Behind Festivals
    • Hearing and retelling special stories linked to festivals
    • Learning about events such as Christmas, Eid and Diwali
  • Exploring Festivals Through the Senses
    • Experiencing what festivals look, sound and feel like
    • Taking part in activities such as making a Christingle, sharing food and creating colourful displays
  • Meaning and Symbols
    • Understanding what festivals represent (e.g. good overcoming evil, kindness, sacrifice)
    • Exploring important symbols, such as baby Jesus at Christmas
  • Values and Beliefs
    • Learning about values such as kindness, gratitude, generosity and faith
    • Thinking about how these values can be shown in our school and everyday life

Through our R.E lessons, children will be developing:

  • Respect and understanding – learning about different religions and beliefs
  • Listening and reflection – thinking about stories and their meanings
  • Comparison skills – noticing similarities and differences between festivals
  • Discussion skills – sharing ideas and asking thoughtful questions
  • Vocabulary – using words like festival, belief, symbol, celebration
