Termly subject coverage – Autumn 2026

This term we will be learning about:

Maths– Each week we will be completing work from different areas of maths. On a Monday the children will be completing their CLICs and SAFE work which allows the children to transfer all of their skills to a variety of questions.  The children will also spend time working on addition and subtraction.

Reading –

Every day the children will have a phonics session where all of the sounds are learnt; words are segmented and blended back together. Time will be spent completing phonic activities and reading texts to suit each child’s reading level.

The children are given time to read in school and take the Accelerated Reading tests when they have finished and understood their book. These tests ask the children questions to clarify their understanding and only allow them to move onto the next stage when ready. We would like each child to read one book per week and at least 3 pages per night.

Writing –

This half term we will revising the basics – capital letters, full stops, nouns, adjectives and handwriting. We will be focusing on making sure all our work is laid out correctly, that our letters sit on the line, our tall letters are tall and that we have clear finger spaces. We will be using traditional tales ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood. We shall also be reading one of Mrs Bell & Mrs Moore’s favourites ‘Man on the moon.’

Science – Animals Needs for Survival

This half term the children will be looking at mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles and humans. They will look at the basic needs of survival for each group, making overall comparisons. By the end of the topic, the children should understand that although there are differences in how animals need are met, all animals need air, water, food and shelter to survive.

Creative Curriculum –

History = ANCIENT HISTORY.

Geography: TOUR UK.

Art and Design: ARTISTS, CRAFTMAKERS and DESIGNERS.

Design Technology: Mechanical.

Spellings –

The children have now all been given their spelling booklet which lists the spellings to be learnt each week until next half term. Each week a spelling test will take place on a Friday and then the new spelling list will be introduced.
