 What We’re Learning

This half term, we will be building our confidence and understanding across key areas of maths using the White Rose scheme. Our focus includes:

  • Multiplication and Division

    • Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s

    • Making equal groups

    • Using arrays and repeated addition

  • Fractions

    • Recognising and finding half and quarter

    • Understanding parts of a whole

  • Measurement

    • Measuring length and height

    • Comparing and ordering measurements

    • Using appropriate mathematical vocabulary

  • Time

    • Telling the time to o’clock and half past

    • Sequencing events throughout the day

 Skills We’re Developing

Throughout our maths learning, children will be developing:

  • Fluency – recalling number facts quickly and accurately

  • Reasoning – explaining their thinking using mathematical language

  • Problem-solving – applying their skills to a range of real-life situations

  • Confidence – becoming independent and resilient learners

  • Mathematical vocabulary – using correct terms such as equal groups, halves, quarters, longer, shorter

How You Can Support at Home

You can make a big difference by supporting maths learning in everyday life:

  • Practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s (e.g. counting steps, toys, or snacks)

  • Explore fractions by cutting food into halves and quarters

  • Talk about time – ask your child to spot o’clock and half past on clocks

  • Measure at home – compare heights of objects or family members

  • Play games – board games, puzzles and number apps all help build skills

  • Encourage explanation – ask “How do you know?” to develop reasoning
