In the studio: artist and designer Yinka Ilori

We visit artist and designer Yinka Ilori's studio in West London to discuss his love of colour, what inspires him, and how he celebrates his heritage through his work.

Investigating Yinka Ilori and Banksy

This half term in Art, Year 1 children will be introduced to the exciting world of two modern and contrasting artists: Yinka Ilori and Banksy.

Through exploring their work, pupils will begin to understand how art can tell stories, share messages, and brighten everyday spaces. They'll also begin developing their own artistic voice by experimenting with colour, pattern, and street art techniques.

How You Can Support at Home

  • Look for colours, patterns, or murals in your local area and talk about them

  • Share picture books or children’s art resources that celebrate colour and creativity


By exploring the works of Yinka Ilori and Banksy, children are encouraged to see that art is all around us – in galleries, on streets, and in everyday objects – and that everyone can be an artist with something to say.
