�� What We’re Learning

This half term, we will be exploring Plants and Growth through our science lessons.

• Identifying Plants

  • Naming common plants and trees

  • Recognising different parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves, flowers)

• How Plants Grow

  • Understanding what plants need to grow and stay healthy (water, light, warmth)

  • Observing how plants change over time

• Planting and Investigating

  • Planting seeds and watching them grow

  • Carrying out simple investigations (e.g. what happens if a plant has no water or light?)

• Exploring Our Environment

  • Looking at plants in our local area

  • Identifying similarities and differences between plants

�� Skills We’re Developing

Through our science learning, children will be developing:

• Observation skills – carefully noticing changes in plants over time

• Scientific enquiry – asking questions and making simple predictions

• Recording results – drawing and talking about what we see

• Vocabulary development – using words like roots, stem, leaves, grow, healthy

• Curiosity – developing an interest in the natural world

�� How You Can Support at Home

You can support your child’s science learning with simple activities:

• �� Grow a plant at home – even a small seed in a pot

• �� Talk about what plants need to grow and stay healthy

• �� Explore nature – look at different plants when out and about

• �� Observe changes – notice how plants grow or change over time

• �� Read books or watch videos about plants and nature

• �� Ask questions – encourage your child to talk about what they notice
