This half term, we will be exploring Seasons and Climate and learning about how different places around the world experience weather in different ways.

• Seasons

  • Learning about Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter

  • Understanding how weather and the environment change across the year

• Local Area Field Study

  • Observing plants (flora) in our local area

  • Comparing what our surroundings look like now to other seasons

• The World Map

  • Identifying key features such as the Equator and Tropics

  • Beginning to understand where hot and cold places are found

• Hot and Cold Climates

  • Looking at aerial photographs of different environments

  • Comparing features of hot and cold places

• Comparing Locations

  • Exploring the climate of Pelsall and comparing it to the Antarctic

  • Discussing differences in temperature, weather and living conditions

Through our geography learning, children will be developing:

• Observation skills – noticing changes in seasons and environments

• Comparison skills – identifying similarities and differences between places

• Map skills – recognising simple features on a world map

• Geographical vocabulary – using words like season, climate, Equator, hot, cold

• Enquiry skills – asking questions about the world around them

You can support your child’s geography learning in everyday ways:
