Firstly, we hope that all of our children and families have been well during the recent lockdown. It has, and still remains a very unusual time, especially for our children.
As you will be aware, it is the government’s intention for schools to reopen on June 1st with Nursery children, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 attending. Any reopening must follow strict government guidelines and expectations.
Governors and SLT have identified an action plan which details the answers to the questions you will have around maintaining social distancing and cleanliness. This is available on the website for you to read and we hope it will help you to make a decision as to whether you send your child to school as expected on June 1st.
One of the questions we are unable to answer with any certainty are those concerning the size of the groupings. The action plan states a maximum each classroom can hold and is designed for these maximum numbers. However, we are now seeking your help so that the SLT can plan more exactly, which will involve the deployment of staff.
Therefore, we now need you to carefully consider whether or not you intend to send your child in to school. The options available are shown below:

Wraparound Group 7:30 – 5:00 |
This is only available to children of Critical Key Worker parents in N, R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. These children will remain in this group for the duration of the day (including breaks and lunch etc) to follow the government guidelines. We will request evidence of key worker status. Children must have a packed lunch prepared on site. *For example, a Reception child requiring wraparound care will not join the reception groups (with their friends) when the normal school day starts. |

Critical Key Worker/Vulnerable Children Group 9:00 – 3:15 |
This is for children in Y2,3,4,5 for whom school is not reopening but parents are Critical key workers not requiring wraparound provision or children are classed as vulnerable. These children will remain in this group for the duration of the day (including breaks/lunch etc) We will request evidence of Key worker status. Children must have a packed lunch prepared on site. |

Nursery 9:15 – 3:00 |
This will be for Nursery children and will follow our current 30hr provision. Use of equipment will be limited to reduce risk. Children must have a packed lunch prepared on site. The government do not expect 2m distancing to be maintained and neither do we. We will however refrain from unnecessary contact. For example, if your child is understandably upset when you drop them off, the usual nurturing, close contact will not be able to be administered. |

Reception 9:00 – 3:15 |
This will be for Reception children. Use of equipment will be limited to reduce risk. Children must have a packed lunch prepared on site. The government do not expect 2m distancing to be maintained and neither do we. We will however refrain from unnecessary contact. |

All children will be expected to wear regularly cleaned school uniform but we are asking that ties are not worn.
When making your decision we politely request that you are ‘firm’ in the information you provide and understand that your initial decision will remain and cannot be changed until further details of more children returning to school are provided from the government (we expect this to be a three week period). Children not attending school will still be expected to complete the work set by teachers and published on the website.
Pelsall Village school is fortunate to have large classrooms and lots of outdoor space. We are confident that our action plan will enable the maximum number of children to attend safely, as the government has suggested. However, we also respect parental choice at this difficult time.
As well as the full action plan, we have provided a summary. We are asking parents to email their decisions to school using the email provided (postbox@pelsallvillage.co.uk). Office staff will also be calling parents during Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd May if we have not received a response. At the end of this procedure, we will be able to be precise on the class groupings and staffing levels.

Dear Parent/Carer
I’m sure like me, many of you will have watched the Prime Minister’s speech yesterday. You will have heard him indicating that the government believes it may be in a position to implement a phased re-opening of schools from June 1st, starting with pupils in reception, year one and year six.
At the moment, schools have not received any information about how this may work so, unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to answer the questions you will no doubt have as parents. However, we are expecting a plan to be shared with us within the coming days/weeks. I wanted to assure you that as soon as we have clearer information, we will notify you.
For the time being, school remains closed to all pupils except children of key workers and those within vulnerable groups. When we do re-open, the safety of our school community will be a priority and therefore any safety guidance published by the government will be strictly adhered to.
The teachers will continue to put work on our website. It is very important to keep up with this work as much as possible and continue reading and rockstars.
