  • Growth Development, Health and Sex Education

    Thu 25 Jun 2020 S Tuckwell-Allen

Whilst still at Pelsall Village School, your Year 6 child will be taking part in a series of lessons on growth development, health and sex education appropriate for this age group. The next sessions will be on Tuesday 30th June 2020 and Thursday 2nd July 2020.

Each lesson will be in 2 parts: the first part will focus on describing changes that happen in puberty and include scientific information about sexual relationships. The second part will be on managing healthy relationships as they enter young adulthood. There will also be opportunities for the children to ask questions.

At the moment, under current government guidelines, parents have the option of withdrawing their child from these lessons in full. If you wish for your child NOT to take part, please inform the school before the dates of the lessons. If school receives no response, it will recorded that you are happy for your child to take part. At any point during these lessons, if a child does feel uncomfortable about the content, please be reassured that they will be given the choice of leaving the lesson themselves discretely.

  • CELEBRATING YOUR HARD WORK

Thu 25 Jun 2020 Mr Bagley

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Hopefully you will have read our previous letter explaining our plans to personally present you with your child’s report, have an opportunity to see this year’s teacher and also meet next year’s teacher. In addition to this, we will provide you with details of how we are planning to support our children’s needs when we return in September. These days will be running from Thursday 9th July to Thursday 16th July. We really hope to see as many of you as possible on your allocated day.

On these days we would also like you to bring along the work that your child has completed whilst at home. This was originally in the dark green books that were provided but may also be in additional books or paper that you have provided. The majority of this work will be that planned by the class teachers and set through the school website.

We are very keen to see the hard work you and your children have put in at home. During the summer, the teachers will look at all the work and will reward children individually on their efforts using our merits. These merits will be added to your child’s current booklet when we return in September. A special certificate will be awarded to each child returning completed work.

On your designated report day please bring along your child’s work books. Next to where you collect your child’s report we will leave a box/container for you to put the work book(s) in to.

As Year 6 will not be returning in September, can we ask that parents/children wishing for their books to be seen and merits awarded please bring the books to the school office from Friday 3rd July to Tuesday 7th July for Miss Thomson to look through. Acknowledgement of the work can then be made on Thursday 16th when it the Y6 report day.

    Kind Regards

  • UPDATE ON CHILDREN RETURNING TO SCHOOL

Wed 10 Jun 2020 Mr Bagley

    Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                          10.6.20

Following the government briefing about schools on 9.6.20 we are now able to make decisions in relation to the remaining weeks of the summer term.

Before explaining our intentions we understand that our options will not suit the individual needs of all of our parents/carers and children. Unfortunately, we are still directed by social distancing, class sizes and availability of staff (Pelsall Village has a number of staff who, following guidelines, are still required to isolate). We therefore politely ask for your understanding when reading the following information:

    1. On June 22nd we are hoping to offer more places for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children. We are unable to offer additional Nursery places due to staffing restrictions.

Parent action – Please email postbox@pelsallvillage.co.uk or telephone the office 01922682073 to confirm that you would like a place for your child starting on June 22nd. This must be done before 3:00p.m on Friday 12th June.

School action – Over the weekend of 13th, 14th we will then decide whether or not it is possible to increase the Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 groupings, based on safety, classroom space and staffing restrictions. We will then inform parents of our decision on Monday 15th June.

    1. Dependent on the number of Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children returning on June 22nd we will then look to offer places for our current Year 5 children. The transition from Year 5 to Year 6 is very important in relation to the end of primary school. This will give the children an opportunity to work with their teachers for next year and support transition.

School action – Following the organisation of Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children intake on June 22nd we will then decide whether we can offer places to Year 5. If this is possible, we will then contact Year 5 parents individually on Tuesday 16th June.

    1. It is extremely unlikely that Y2, 3 and 4 children will be able to return until September unless we have previously contacted you about your child’s EHCP or vulnerability status. However, this week we have started some virtual lessons using Zoom. These will continue but from June 22nd there will be greater availability of lessons for Y2, 3 and 4 children.

Parent action – Providing you have access to the technology, support your children in accessing these on line lessons organised by our teachers.

School action – We will provide dates and times and connection details of all lessons on class pages on our website.

    1. We will continue to run our Key Worker group for Y2, 3 and 4 children only, providing we are able to provide places for Year 5 children. It will not be possible to provide before and after school club for children starting on June 22nd.

    1. Towards the end of term we are planning to provide the opportunity for every parent/carer and child to come in to school to collect their end of year report from their teacher and also meet their teacher for next year. To do this, we would spread these across a whole week, giving a whole day to each year group. We would provide each child with a time slot during the designated day. We envisage this taking place in the school hall. We hope this will be an opportunity, although small, for some children to re-establish their relationship with our school.

These have been very difficult times, through which Pelsall Village school have endeavoured to support our children and parents as much as possible. We are planning the RESTART in September with a promotion of ‘Love of Learning’ a very high priority.

    Thank you for your support.
