  • INFORMATION ABOUT COVID PROCESS

Mon 21 Sep 2020 Mr Bagley

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing in an attempt to clearly outline the process in relation to a confirmed COVID case in a school.

We appreciate that the ever changing guidance relating to COVID is making it difficult to understand why certain decisions are made or not made.

This is the process when a school contacts Public Health England:

    1. When a school is made aware of a positive test result it immediately calls Public Health England – Walsall.
    2. During the telephone conversation the school are asked a series of questions which are aimed at establishing who the individual has had ‘Close contact’ with.
    3. The conversation includes how ‘bubbles’ are set up and the movement of everyone around the school.
    4. Following talking to the school, the individual is then contacted and again the same series of questions are asked so that a clear picture of events is made.
    5. Depending on the answers to the questions, Public Health England then explain the actions that they wish the school to carry out.

    1. A whole ‘bubble’ would be closed if it is not possible to pinpoint a small number of ‘close contacts’ e.g a pupil has tested positive who it is not possible to track which other children they have had contact with. Or a teacher tests positive and the day before they spent the whole day in the classroom working with any number of children.
    2. Individuals will be asked to self-isolate if it can clearly be established that the individual only came in to ‘close contact’ with a small number of children. This was the case at Pelsall Village. Because the case at Pelsall Village was on a Monday morning it also meant that the individual was not in ‘close contact’ with anyone at school in the 48 hours before Monday morning (this being the most contagious period). The individual was only in the classroom for a short period of time on Monday morning resulting in very limited ‘close contact’ with children in the ‘bubble’.

The other aspect that we would like to make clear relates to all other individuals in the school. The process as explained above works on ‘Close contact with an individual who has tested positive’. Therefore siblings of any children asked to self-isolate are seen as safe to continue to come to school as they have not been in ‘close contact with an individual who has tested positive’. The same applies to every other person in school.

Should one of the children or other staff members asked to self-isolate show symptoms then they should be tested. If this is a positive test then the process begins again.

It is therefore clear that all other children should be attending school. Non attendance because there has been a positive COVID test at your child’s school will be marked as unauthorised. As with all absences school’s should ask for proof of a medical problem if this is the reason provided for an absence.

We are continuing to carry out strict maintenance of hygiene in every ‘bubble’ at school and of shared spaces.

    Thank you for your support.

    Pelsall Village School.

  • IMPORTANT COVID 19 LETTER

    Sun 20 Sep 2020 G.Bagley

    Dear Parents,

This is a letter from Public Health England. It is the result of a very detailed process over the last 24 hours. Please read the content carefully.

Advice to All Parents/Carers - Single case

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been advised yesterday (19.9.20) that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the Y6CR bubble.  Upon investigation and undertaking an assessment of risk with Walsall Public Health, we have been able to narrow down any prolonged close contact to six individuals.

We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Walsall Public Health. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

The school remains open for all staff and students, with the exception of the six individuals who have been contacted and we are following strict hygiene measures. Providing your child remains well they can continue to attend school as normal. We will keep this under review.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119. We encourage that symptomatic individuals get tested at the earliest opportunity.

All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days.  The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.   Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.

Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

If you are able to, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, requesting they stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period

    Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • new continuous cough and/or
    • high temperature
    • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If your child or anyone in the household does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/ or by phoning 111.

    How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19

    Do

    • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
    • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
    • wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

    Yours sincerely

  • Carousel Day Fri 11 September

    Tue 08 Sep 2020 S Lawton

We are inviting parents to school on Fri 11 September to show you what your children have been doing. Please see the letter for full details.

    Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                    8.9.20

We are really pleased with the start to the new school year, especially in light of the issues created by COVID 19. Thank you for supporting us by following our plans in relation to start and end of the day procedures.

Part of our planning back in July was to spend the first week and a half completing social and emotional health style activities in school in order to make the children more comfortable and happy at school and to remove as many anxieties as possible. We shared this with you on the report collection days and explained that on the Friday, depending on the situation, we would invite parents to school to find out what your children have been doing.

I am pleased to say that we are able to invite parents in as planned and the weather forecast is being kind to us. Therefore we have planned the following:

    • Each class (Y1 – Y6) will share some of their experiences in a marked out space on the school field – this will allow ample social distancing.
    • After your child’s class has performed they will go back to the classroom to collect their belongings and will then be released to you.
    • If you have an older sibling, they must take part in their class’ performance and therefore you will be asked to wait on the field (in a waiting zone) until they come out to the field.
    • Times are as follows: Y1T and Y1/2H (12:50 – 1:15)

                                      Y2MB and Y3H (1:20 – 1:45)

                                      Y3/4F and Y4BETA (1:50 – 2:15)

                                      Y5S, Y5T, Y6CR and Y6S (2:20 – 2:45)

    • Parents attending are advised to bring a blanket to sit on (please place your blanket on one of the sprayed spots around where your child’s class performs.)
    • Please enter school through the pedestrian gate on Old Town Lane and you will be directed off the site through the front car park.
    • A risk assessment for this activity will be published on the website.
    • Due to the timings, school will finish at 2:50 for all pupils. If you are not attending and are not able to collect at this earlier time, please contact the office and we will look after your child until the normal collection time of 3:15.

Yours sincerely and thank you for your support

    Glyn Bagley (Head teacher)
