This term we will be learning about:

Autumn – CURRICULUM OVERVIEW | |
English | We are going to be exploring and writing about stories this term (one of which is Elmer). We are going to practice our pre cursive handwriting, and practise writing for a purpose. Our aim is to have fun and write about it. We will also explore writing and reading non fiction books and texts based on things the children are interested in. |
Maths | This term we will be looking at our Learn Its, which allow children to work on and apply all areas of their mathematic learning. We will also focus on place value and number, learning to count, read and write numbers, compare numbers, calculations - focusing on addition and subtraction within 20. We will look at the wider Maths subjects of Geometry (2D and 3D shapes), length and height. |
Science | Human body and the senses This half term children will spend time learning about the human body, from who has the largest feet in the class to what our senses are used for. |
Geography | Looking at the UK, specifically Bristol and the Peak District. We will investigate physical and human features. The country of Kenya in Africa, compared to the UK, its physical and human features. |
History | We will be finding out about the Ancient Egyptians and how they helped to shape the world as it is today. We will move on to more modern history and look at the Tudors and the Stuarts. |
DT | Looking at Kenyan food, sampling some and making coconut rice. |
Art | We will be studying the artists Banksy and Yinka Ilori and comparing their work. We will also look at the jewellery that Faberge created and attempt to create our own pieces. |
Computing | Parts of a computer, household technology, internet safety |
PE | Gymnastics |
RE | We will be learning about how different religions and cultures celebrate special occasions. |
Music | Keyboard lessons with Mr Spence. Music for enjoyment and relaxation (Cosmic Yoga), Music for Exercise and learning (Jack Hartmann, The Learning Station) |
Spellings year 1
Spellings are in line with the rest of the school. Turn learning into a game, have fun with them. See if they can use the words in sentences. Repeated practice and use is a great way to learn them, and for your children to feel confident with them. READ, COVER, WRITE, REPEAT :)

Children's University is a great opportunity for children to engage in extra activities, and get rewarded for it. It allows you to gather the hours, and work with Wolverhampton University, and learn about further education.
