Autumn – CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
|We are going to be exploring and writing about stories this term (many of them about Elmer). We are going to practice our pre cursive handwriting, and continue to write for a purpose. Our aim is to have fun and write about it.|
Each week we will be completing work from the different areas of maths. Mondays we will be looking at our CLICs and Learn Its, which allows children to work on and apply all areas of their mathematic learning. Tuesdays will be place value and number, learning to count, read and write numbers, and compare numbers. Wednesday will be calculations where the children will learn about the different mathematic operations. Thursday we will look at geometry, looking at shapes and fractions. This then leads nicely into our Friday lesson, where we will look at measures, ranging from height and length to time.
Animals, including humans. People and their pets. Seasonal Changes, Children will observe creatures around the school grounds. They will look at the different habitats and think about animals they may have at home.
Glorious Great Britain. For our topic we will be looking at the four countries of the United Kingdom. We will see the impact the Monarchy has had over the years. The children will learn about castles and landmarks, and will use maps to locate capital cities. We will also look at battles that may have taken place such as the Battle of Hastings.

Spellings year 1
Spellings are in line with the rest of the school. Turn learning into a game, have fun with them. See if they can use the words in sentences. Repeated practice and use is a great way to learn them, and for your children to feel confident with them. READ, COVER, WRITE, REPEAT :)
