Welcome to Year 5!

This year, we will share all the important information that you require at home on a Year 5 page rather than individual class pages. You will find our class emails below if you need to discuss anything or find us on the front playground at the end of the day. 



Meet the Year 5 Teachers


6CR - Mrs Rose (Mon-Wed), Mrs Carthey (Wed-Fri).

We are extremely fortunate to have Mrs Sweet and Mrs Sears supporting across the two classes each morning. She will be concentrating on specific areas of the curriculum with small groups and individuals during the afternoons. 

Year 5 Timetables

This term, we will be learning about:


Each day during the week, we will concentrate on a different aspect of maths. 

Monday - Number - counting, rounding and comparing numbers up to 100,000. 

Tuesday - Fractions - equivalent fractions, fractions greater than 1, mixed numbers and improper fractions. 

Wednesday - BIG MATHS - Learn Its (times tables), CLICs and SAFE activities.

Thursday - Calculation - addition and subtraction with exchanging. Factors, multiples and prime numbers. 

Friday - Measurement - area and perimeter, angles and measuring with a protractor.


This term, we will be using our class novel 'Friend or Foe' written by Micheal Morpurgo to write a range of pieces of writing. These include a diary entry, an informal letter and fiction.

We will focus on using a range of writing codes and writing sentences that include accurate and varied punctuation. 


Our reading VIPERS novel this term is COSMIC. Each week, we will focus on a different reading comprehension skill. We use VIPERS to remember the comprehension skills. 



Our topic this half term is materials and their properties.


Our learning includes looking at the solubility of different materials, filtration, evaporation and dissolving. We are using our knowledge of solids, liquids and gases. 


Creative Curriculum

Our creative curriculum this term is 'We'll Meet Again' which sees us look into the events of World War 2. We begin by looking at why the war started, The Battle of Britain, evacuation, rationing, propaganda and many other aspects of this time in British history.

Extra Year Group Information



Please remember to bring your P.E. kit on your P.E. day. 

It is extremely important that ALL children bring a water bottle into school everyday. 


SWIMMING - WEDNESDAYS - Please arrive at school each week at 8:25am. Remember to wear your swimwear under your uniform as well as a towel  and underwear for after swimming. SWIMMING BEGINS WED 8TH SEPTEMBER.

Please ensure that P.E. kits are in school for P.E. days. 


- Please practise each week's spellings. We will look through the spellings each Friday and the pupils will be tested on them the following week. Please use the slides below to help with your practise at home. 


- Times table Rockstars. Practise your times tables using your login and username. 


- Continue to read as much as you can at home. Remember to complete an AR quiz when you get back into school.
