Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
This year, we will share all the important information that you require at home on a Year 5 page rather than individual class pages. You will find our class emails below if you need to discuss anything or find us on the front playground at the end of the day.
To further develop their World country knowledge, Year 5 classes have started to use the daily challenge website 'GLOBLE'. Here, you guess the 'country of the day', using the closest guessed country to try another. This can be played at home too and will really help learn the spellings of countries around the world. We are using a World map from the internet to help us with spellings/locating new countries when attempting these.
Click on the globe above to send you to the website! Have fun! :)

We will be completing different writing
tasks based on this story, which is linked
to our Born Free topic.
Reading
Our reading VIPERS novel this term is TOM'S MIDNIGHT GARDEN by Phillipa Pearce. Each week, we will focus on a different reading comprehension skill. We use VIPERS to remember the comprehension skills.
Science
Our topic this half term is SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST.
Our learning will look at how living things pass on genetic material and how traits are inherited from generation to generation. We will be looking at differences in genes and how family members share DNA. We will look at how species more suited to an environment will produce more offspring and they will be more likely to pass on their specific characteristics to the next generation.
Creative Curriculum
Our creative curriculum this term is 'BORN FREE' which sees us look into the History of slavery and historical events linked with freedom. We begin by looking at the world to identify continents and countries as we will be looking at areas of Asia and Africa in detail. We will be thinking about human and animal rights and how things have changed over time. This will enable us to discuss and debate how we can help the future of mankind and the environment.
